At the age of 6 years , children in the United States starting in the Elementary School, to attend the first of six degrees that will culminate to complete basic education . Enrolling a child in an American public school is a fairly simple process.
There are no requirements regarding citizenship . The basic requirement is that the student and his representative living in the same district where the school is located . It will require some proof of residence such as apartment lease document , or phone bills or electricity. There will be a health requirement , as a recent test of medical examination or immunization.
The American academic structure also offers special courses for students who for some reason can not enter the regular system . The most common need refers to children who do not speak English . Bilingual education in English and the most common foreign languages like Spanish and Chinese , is available in many communities. There are also programs for children with disabilities or special physical conditions.
Secondary education consists of six academic degrees. There are different categories at this level , but generally the seventh, eighth and ninth are considered Middle School or " Junior High School" and degrees tenth, eleventh and twelfth are properly called "High School ".
High School is a special experience in American life . It is the time when young people begin to be culturally induced to independence, own attitude of life in America.
Primary and secondary education can also be taught in private schools.
Although often very expensive , private schools are an option for parents who want to ensure your child a better education or a particular religious background . These institutions are regulated by state governments to force them to maintain the standard formal education , but do not receive state financial aid .
